
#10 Spartans Sweep Barry, Win Seventh in a Row
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 10 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team earned its ninth win of the season Friday night against Barry at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center, improving its overall record to 9-1 with a perfect 3-0 record in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: The Spartans started off hot, earning a 6-2 lead in the early showing with two kills from Katie McKiel (from Claudia Rivera and Melissa Elias), a team service ace, and two BU attack errors. Kalli Cors gave Tampa its sixth point off the feed from Emily Noe. The Bucs fought back, tying the set 7-7. The Spartans began a bit of a run, being the first to 15 and at one point leading 20-15. The Spartans and Bucs traded points down the stretch of the opening set, with UT ultimately winning 28-26. McKiel paced the Spartans with six kills in the set. Score: 1-0 Tampa
Second Set: Sierra Rayzor and Sorrel Houghton opened the scoring in the second set (both from Elias) for a 2-0 Spartan lead. The Spartans and Bucs continued to fight, tied at 6-6, before consecutive kills by McKiel (both from Elias) made the Spartans first to 15. Tampa led 17-14 before four consecutive points from BU earned them a one-point lead, 18-17. McKiel once again led the Spartans in the closing points of the set, picking up two of the Spartans final points (both from Elias) for a 25-21 set win. Score: 2-0 Tampa
Third Set: The Spartans and Bucs continued fighting in the final set, trading blows to a 14-14 score. A BU service error gave Tampa its 15th point and the Spartans used its momentum to cruise to a 25-17 win, taking the clean sweep. Final: 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Elias and Noe led the Spartans with 15 and 14 assists apiece, respectively.
- McKiel hit .379 and led the Spartan attack with 13 kills.
- Claudia Rivera has double-digit digs in eight of nine matches this season.
