WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The no. 10 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team defeated the West Georgia Wolves on day two of the South Region Crossover Saturday night at the Advent Health Fieldhouse. Tampa won the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: The Spartans dominated the first set and were the first to 15, opening the set with a 15-4 run. Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans with four kills. Melissa Elias ran the Spartans attack with six assists. Tampa took the first set handily, 25-14. Score: 1-0 Tampa
Second Set: The second set played closer in the early going for both squads, with Tampa narrowly leading 9-6 to open the set. The Spartans used an even attack to take a commanding 20-13 lead with kills from Elias, Mackenzie Dufresne, and Kalli Cors. Elias again finished the set with six assists. Score: 2-0 Tampa
Third Set: The Spartans started the set with a 5-0 run before the Wolves marched back to tie things up. Tampa and West Georgia traded points, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, all the way to 20-20 all. A 5-2 Tampa run sealed the deal and Tampa took the match with a 25-22 set win. Houghton led the Spartans with five kills in the set. Elias added eight assists. Final: 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Six Spartans registered four or more kills: Houghton (9), Cors (9), Elias (7), Katie McKiel (7), Dusfresne (5), Sierra Rayzor (4).
- Chelsea Simmons and Elias paced the Spartans attack with 17 and 21 assists, respectively.
- Claudia Rivera lead the Spartans defense with a team-high 17 digs.
- Houghton's nine kills were tied with Cors for the team high. She also hit .444.
