WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The no. 10 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team beat the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on day two of the South Region Crossover Saturday night at the Advent Health Fieldhouse. Katie McKiel's 13 kills in the match led the Spartans and gave her 1,500 for her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: The Spartans began the set with a 15-8 run and never looked back. McKiel had six assists in the first set to lead the Spartans. Melissa Elias ran the Spartans attack with nine assists. The Spartans dominated the first set 25-13. Score: 1-0 Tampa
Second Set: The Spartans again began the set with a 15-8 run. Five of the Spartans 15 points came from UAH attack errors. McKiel and Sorrel Houghton each had three kills. Elias had 10 assists in the set. The Spartans again won the set handily 25-18. Score: 2-0 Tampa
Third Set: Tampa and UAH played a close final set in the early going with the Spartans leading 9-6. An 11-5 run gave the Spartans a 20-11 lead. Houghton had five kills in the set to lead Tampa. Elias had seven assists in the set and Emily Noe was right behind her with five of her own. Final: 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- McKiel's 13 kills were a team high and give her 1,500 in her Spartan career. She hit .647 in the match.
- Houghton also posted double-digit kills with 12.
- Three Spartans recorded five kills: Elias, Kalli Cors, and Taylor Fosler.
- Elias led the Spartan attack with 26 assists. Noe contributed 15.
- Claudia Rivera had 21 assists, which were highest in the match for both squads.
