WEEKEND PREVIEW: Top-Ranked Spartans Set for Conference Play

Week 3

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

  • Mackenzie Dufresne garners Offensive Player of the Week after leading Tampa to a 3-0 record at last week's Tampa Classic. The Tarpon Springs, Florida native recorded a .537 hitting percentage with 35 kills on 54 attempts and six errors. The junior's top performance of the week came during a four-set victory over Wheeling in the form of 27 kills in 33 attempts. Also of note was Dufresne's seven blocks, three digs, and two kills against No. 24 Colorado Mesa.

#1 Tampa

  • The Spartans reclaim the top spot for another week in the AVCA Coaches' Poll with three wins last weekend, one of those wins coming against #21 Colorado Mesa University. Mackenzie Dufresne currently leads the Sunshine State Conference with a .549 hitting percentage.

Florida Southern

  • The Mocs come into the weekend 5-2 after spending some time in Alaska, where they beat No. 20 Alaska Anchorage. They are set to play Eckerd on Thursday at 7 p.m. in St. Petersburg. Florida Southern will see the Spartans on Friday at 7 p.m. in their home gym.

Eckerd

  • Tritons received votes in the most recent poll but not a ranking. They are entering this week with 8-0 record, and play Florida Southern before they play the Spartans on Saturday at 4 p.m.
