Spartans Roll Tritons in Weekend Finale

 TAMPA, Fla. - The top-ranked Spartans continue their success in the Sunshine State Conference with a sweep against the Eckerd Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: The Spartans came out of the gate hot with a 9-0 run to start the game. Tampa had contributions from Mackenzie Dufresne, Kalli Cors, and Tess Schrenger all having a couple kills in the first set. The Tritons made it interesting coming back from a 20-9 to make it 24-16 but it was to late for them and the Spartans took the first set. Score: 1-0 Tampa

Second Set: The first ten points of the set were tightly contested. The Spartans went on a 3-0 run to extend their lead but the Tritons answered right back with a run of their own to make it 10-8. The Spartans went on a 5-0 run with a couple kills coming from Cors and Hayley Dillon, stretching out the lead to 19-11. The Tritons came back but it wasn't enough and the Spartans took the second set. Score: 2-0 Tampa

Third Set: Tampa started the game 15-5 with a few kills coming from Nathaly Perez in their early run. Another 9-2 run for the Spartans brought the third set to 24-10. Eckerd grabbed two points before a service error by Ashley Eck which gave the Spartans the sweep in the weekend finale. Score: 3-0 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS: 

• Dufresne led the Spartans with a .667 hitting percentage. 
• Claudia Rivera collected 13 digs and five assists.
• Zoey Seput has 15 assists and 11 digs.
