No. 6 Finish off Senior Night with a Bang

TAMPA, Fla. – Spartans roll the Lions on Senior Night.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: No.6 Tampa (26-3, 16-3 SSC) , Saint Leo (12-19, 5-15 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: A couple kills from Nathaly Perez early, gave the Spartans an early 3-2 lead. The Lions answered right back and tied it with one of their own. An 8-3 run from the Spartans helped them get out to a 13-7 lead. The Spartans really started to put their impression in the set, and got up by as many as 12 points. Back-to-back kills from Kalli Cors gave them the set win. Score: 25-13 Tampa

Second Set: Both teams were tied after the first ten points of the match. Tamp broke the tie and rattled off two more points before the Lions answered with one of their own, and the score was now 8-6 Tampa. The Lions went on a 5-1 run to find themselves tied up again at 11. The Spartans surged by committee getting kils from Tess Schrenger, Alicia Kowalski, and Mackenzie Dufresne increasing their lead to 21-13. A couple more from Kowalski put the Spartans in position to finish out the set at 24-16. A kill from the Lions and an error from Cors put the set at 24-18. Tatyana Lyons finished it off with a powerful kill. Score: 25-18

Third Set:  No. 6 Spartans found themselves down early in the set 5-3. The Spartans would then go on a six point run that led to the first timeout of the set coming from the Lions side. Jenna Davis entered the match for the first time and recorded back-to-back kills for the Spartans to extend their lead. The Lions answered right back with two of their own, to make it 12-9 Tampa. A long rally ended by a solo block from Schrenger gave the Spartans a 17-12 lead. The Spartans wrapped it up on Senior Night on a 7-3 run. Score: 25-16 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS: 

• Dufresne, Cors, and Perez all recorded 8 kills.
• Davis went 4-4 tonight.
• Chelsea Simmons led the squad with 19 assists.
