
PREVIEW: 2023 NCAA Division II Elite Eight
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The University of Tampa volleyball is set for a matchup tonight versus Bentley in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The Spartans clinched the South Region Championship on its home court last Saturday after defeating conference foe Lynn. The NCAA Division II Championships are held in Moonship, Pa. this year and will be held December 7-9.
Tampa is the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament and is set to face No. 8 Bentley in the Elite Eight on December 7, 7:30pm. Bentley and Tampa squared off earlier in the season at the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament in Waltham, Mass. where Tampa came out with a 3-1 set win. The winner will face No. 4 West Texas A&M or No. 5 Clarion for a spot in the National Championship game on December 8, 7:30pm.
The Spartans are looking to capture its fifth national title in program history. Head coach Chris Catanach is in his 40th season in charge of the program and picked up his 1,200th win against Lynn in the NCAA South Region Championship. With the win over Lynn, Catanach ranks second in wins all-time amongst all divisions.
The National Championship will be played on December 9, 5:30pm.
