
UT Closes Out The Annual Tampa Volleyball Classic Perfect
Tampa, Fla. – The Spartans close out Tampa Classic with a convincing win over Hillsdale.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: The Hillsdale Chargers and Tampa Spartans were the remaining unbeaten teams at the Tampa Classic as they entered the first set of the final match. After exchanging initial blows, the Chargers went on a four-point run, forcing Head Coach Chris Catanach to call a timeout down 14-10. After the break, the Spartans scored 10 of 16 points to tie the set at 20 a. Kalli Cors fifth kill sends the Chargers into their second timeout of the set, down 22-21. Tampa would eventually fall to New Haven dropping its first set of the tournament. | Score: 25-23 Hillsdale College
Second Set: Tampa began the second set hot as they quickly found a lead and grew it to 10-5, only to be interrupted by a Hillsdale timeout. A towering kill from Nathaly Perez, who had 5 total in the set, extended the Spartan lead to 11-5. Tampa was able to maintain their lead through the middle of the set and into a Hillsdale timeout as the visitors found themselves down 13-19. The Spartans' Zoey Seput beautifully assisted the final kill of the set, courtesy to none other than Perez. | Score: 25-17 Tampa
Third Set: The Spartan's dominance continued into the third set as back-to-back kills from Tess Schrenger aided an early 5-0 run that sent Head Coach Chris Gravel and the Chargers to into an early timeout. Unable to close the gap on the initial Spartan lead, the Chargers were forced to call another timeout in the set as a kill from Rachel Gregg put the set at 15-8, in favor of Tampa. Shortly after the break, Hillsdale was able to capture 5 of 6 points which sent Tampa into their first timeout of the set. The Chargers continued their late rally and cut the Spartan lead to just 3 points as Catanach signaled for his final timeout. A powerful kill from Cors sealed the third set of the final match for the Spartans. | Score: 25-22 Tampa
Fourth Set: With their eyes set on closing out the set, match, and weekend, Tampa quickly grabbed the first three points of the set en route to an early 8-4 lead that sent Hillsdale into a timeout. Similar to the first, the fourth set saw both teams exchanging points with the two teams being tied a total of 6 different times. Consecutive attack errors from the Chargers led to their second timeout as the Spartans now led 17-15. But, when the momentum seemingly switched to Hillsdale, Tampa called a late timeout still up by two, and then another shortly after with the set now knotted at 23. Schrenger and Cors were able to close out the Tampa Classic with respective kills to end the match. | Score: 25-23 Tampa
