Tampa Captures 20th Win of the Season

Tampa, Fla. – The Spartans spear the Sailfish, extending their win streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: The Spartans start off the first set with a kill by Kalli Cors. Tampa dominates early as they lead the first set 7-4 with a service ace by Nathaly Perez. Zoey Seput earns a service ace giving the Spartans their largest lead of the set at 11-7. As the set continued Perez's kill ended the Sailfish's attempt to close the gap in the score. Jenna Davis and Seput's block at 17-13 forced PBA to call a timeout. After the timeout, Tampa earns the following three points. Feeling the pressure, the Sailfish used their second timeout at 20-13. Davis closed out the set with a kill for the Spartans. | Score: 25-15 Tampa

Second Set: After Tampa's victory in the first set, the Spartans came out confident in the second. Mak Carter starts off the set by scoring back-to-back kills for the Spartans. Meghan Schreck's kill followed by a solo block forced the Sailfish to take their first timeout of the set at 8-4. Following the timeout, Tampa continues to put pressure on the Sailfish with back-to-back kills by Rachel Gregg and Schreck. The Sailfish called their second timeout as the Spartans gained their largest lead at 12-6. After the timeout, the Sailfish fight to gain some momentum, however, the Spartans continue to dominate the set. Schreck scores a kill at 20-12 giving the Spartans their largest lead of the set. Tampa finishes off the second set earning 5 of the last 8 points. | Score: 25-14 Tampa

Third Set: Beginning the third set, Tampa used their momentum from the second set to gain a lead early in the third. Early in, Seput earns back-to-back aces to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead. The Sailfish begin to fight back tying the score at 7-7. The Spartans stopped their momentum with a kill by Carter. As the set continues the two teams are neck-and-neck with each team trying to gain a lead. Davis and Tess Schrenger assisted with a block for the Spartans to gain the lead at 17-16. The Sailfish did not back down as they led 19-17, Head Coach Chris Catanach was forced to use Tampa's first timeout of the game. Coming out of the timeout, a block by Carter and Hayley Dillon tied the score at 19-19. The Sailfish forced Tampa to call their second timeout as they went on to score four of the next six points. The Spartans continue to fight for the third set but fall short as the Sailfish finish out the set. | Score: 25-22 Palm Beach Atlantic

Fourth Set: As the fourth set begins, both teams fight to gain an early lead. A kill by Dillon allows Tampa to lead by three points. Tampa continues to fight with three kills in a row by Jenna Vaske, Schreck, and Dillon. Tampa's lead by six points leaves the Sailfish unsteady as they use their first timeout of the set. Following the timeout, Tampa earns five of the next seven points. After Dillon's kill, the Sailfish call their second timeout of the set. The Spartans come out of the timeout ready to finish the match as Schrenger earns a kill to give the Spartans a 10-point lead. The Spartans finish the set with a kill by Schreck. | Score: 25-12 Tampa
