Lynn Holds Off Tampa in Top-25 Battle
Senior Jake Winship scored for the second time this season.
TAMPA, Fla - The No. 7 ranked University of Tampa men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against No. 15 Lynn University on Wednesday in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Sunshine State Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | Lynn's Niklas Tasky netted the first score of the game in the 23rd minute, as he scored on a pass from Dominic Docherty. Lynn outshot the Spartans 8-4 in the opening half, though its advantage was just 5-3 in shots on goal.
2nd Half | Jack Watson stretched the Fighting Knight lead to 2-0 with a goal at 67:19 that was assisted by Alun Webb. UT's Jake Winship then connected at 78:56 following a barrage of UT shots, closing the gap to 2-1. Tampa outshot its opponent 12-7 in the final half, with Lynn holding a 4-3 edge in shots on target.
INSIDE THE STATS:
• Tampa outshot Lynn 16-15, with the Fighting Knights owning a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
• Freshman Jake Richards played the entire match in goal for Tampa, finishing with seven saves.
• Fredinho Mompremier finished with a team-high four shots as Winship had three with two on goal. Freshman Lewis Sugden also had three shots.
• UT was without the services of forward Jason Collister and midfielder Troy Tucker. Tucker had previously started all eight games this season.
• Sophomore Shawn Van Grouw, a 6-foot-8-inch forward, played a career-high 44 minutes for the Spartans, registering one shot.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• Lynn has now defeated Tampa by a 2-1 score in each of the last three meetings.
• Five of the last six meetings against Lynn have been decided by just one goal, including the previous four matches.
• Winship scored his second goal of the season, with the other coming against Clayton State on September 9.
• Tampa had its home winning streak snapped at 10 matches. The streak dated back to September 3, 2015.
• The No. 7 ranking for Tampa is the highest since week two of the 2012 season when the Spartans held the same spot.
