Spartans Lead Lions After First Meet
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams began their final meet at the UT Aquatics Center against Saint Leo on Saturday.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Score: No. 14 Tampa Spartans 108, No. 25 Saint Leo Lions 74
Women's Score: No. 12 Tampa Spartans 137, No. 17 Saint Leo Lions 48

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The session totaled 20 events, including 10 for the men and 10 for the women.
- The women swept three of their events, and the men swept two.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
- Pablo Ortiz placed second in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:43.17. Brian Daugherty placed third at 1:44.70.
- The Spartan Men swept the 50 Freestyle. Mikael Haugen placed first at 21.24, Marvin Slanschek finished second at 21.56, and Jimmy Senese earned third with a time of 22.14.
- Grant Ruster placed third in 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:55.29.
- Kenan Dean took first place in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:52.39. Winn Aung placed third at 1:54.09.
- Marvin Slanschek placed second in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 47.24.
- In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Parker Knollman placed first at 1:50.15. Connor Kazmi placed second with a time of 1:53.22.
- Hector Paz placed first in the 1,000 Freestyle with a time of 9:49.36. Joe Bozzi placed third at 10:15.52.
- In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Ruster, Jared Mindek, and Carter Murawski claimed the top three finishes at 2:06.72, 2:07.22, and 2:15.89.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
- The Women's 400 Medley Relay started off the meet earning first place with a time of 3:49.83. The team consisted of Mady Barnes, Julia Augustsson, Katie Horan, and Elizaveta Bazarova.
- Megan Goldthorpe placed second in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.71.
- The Spartans swept the 50 Yard Freestyle. Bazarova finished first at 24.03, Erika DiPietro was the runner up at 24.45, and Kristen Wagner placed third with a time of 24.77.
- Madi Lauger took first place in the Women's 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:06.39. Barnes finished just behind at 2:06.47.
- Tampa swept the 200 Yard Butterfly. Courtney Sherwood took first place at 2:02.78, Horan was the runner up at 2:08.78, and Carlee Sanchez-Hegarty took third, finishing at 2:09.37.
- In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Tampa would once again claim the top three spots. DiPietro took first at 52.43, Roma Vrijhof finished second at 53.10, and Emma Chestang finished third at 53.62.
- Jessie Tobin was the runner up in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:28.33. Holly Wessel placed third at 10:32.77.
- In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Paige Hunt took first place at 2:20.19. Anja Oca is the runner-up at 2:21.65.
- Bazarova, Chestang, DiPietro, and Katie Elnicki made up the 400 Yard Freestyle relay and took first with a time of 3:30.64.
UP NEXT:
The Spartans will finish out the pair of meets against the Lions tomorrow, November 21. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m. in Tampa.
