Swimming Squares Off with Keiser Seahawks

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams faced off against the top ranked NAIA program, Keiser University, on Friday.

FINAL SCORES:

Men's Final: No. 1 (NAIA) Keiser Seahawks 143, No. 12 Tampa Spartans 119

Women's Final: No. 6 Tampa Spartans 164.5, No. 1 (NAIA) Keiser Seahawks 97.5

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The meet totaled 28 swimming events, including 14 for the men and 14 for the women.
  • The women won nine events, sweeping two of them.

TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):

  • Joe Bozzi took first in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 9:46.92. Ian Morgan finished third at 9:54.61.
  • In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Parker Knollman finished second with a time of 1:44.26. Kenan Dean was third, turning in a time of 1:45.08.
  • Brian Daugherty registered a time of 53.31 to claim third place in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
  • Johnny Knobel placed third in the 100 Yard Breast with a time of 59.80.
  • Winn Aung wins the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:53.47. Gabe Parnell finished third at 1:57.74.
  • In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Mikael Haugen was the runner up at 21.23. Patrick Fry finished third with a time of 21.70.
  • Marvin Slanschek finished second in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 46.91. Haugen finished third at 47.59.
  • Connor Kazmi took second in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:55.19. Knollman came in third at 1:55.99.
  • In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Jared Mindek was third with a time of 2:10.93.
  • Bozzi took first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:41.56. Morgan came in third at 4:45.04.
  • Nick Fauteux was the runner up in the 100 Fly at 50.41, followed by Aung at 51.41.
  • Parnell took second in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:54.74.
  • The 200 Yard Freestyle relay with Fry, Jimmy Senese, Slanschek, and Haugen took first with a time of 1:23.99

TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):

  • The Spartans claimed the top two spots in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with Alexa Turco finishing first at 10:43.47 and Hannah Bennett taking second with a time of 10:50.82.
  • Megan Goldthorpe was the runner up in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:57.58. Holly Wessel placed third at 1:58.83.
  • Sierra Gillan was third in the 100 Yard Back with a time of 1:00.91.
  • In the 100 Yard Breast, Julia Augustsson topped the board with a time of 1:05.71. Alli McFarland came in third with a time of 1:08.50.
  • Courtney Sherwood earned first in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.72. Carlee Sanchez-Hegarty claimed third with a time of 2:10.21.
  • Emma Chestang placed first in the 50 Free with a time of 25.09. Kristen Wagner placed third at 25.27.
  • Tampa took the top two with Kate Elnicki finishing at 53.72 and Roma Vrijhof at 53.86 in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
  • Gillian was the runner up in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:07.72. Juliana Carey placed third at 2:10.27.
  • Augustsson placed first in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:24.21. Paige Hunt was the runner up at 2:27.05.
  • The Spartans swept the 500 Yard Freestyle. Wessel took first at 5:10.52. Turco was the runner up at 5:18.24. Goldthorpe was third at 5:19.40.
  • Anja Oca took first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 58.87. Wagner finished just behind at 58.92, and Katie Horan finished third at 59.16.
  • Sherwood placed first in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:12.52. Madi Lauger earned second at 2:13.21.

UP NEXT:

The Spartans will wrap up the regular season when they visit Tallahassee to take on the No. 19 (DI Men) Florida State Seminoles on January 28th at 2:00 pm.
