UT Takes Day One of Two-Day Meet With Saint Leo
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams began the weekend with a pair of victories over Saint Leo University in the first of two meetings with the Lions.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Score: No. 9 Tampa 142, Saint Leo 44
Women's Score: No. 5 Tampa 131, Lynn 54
Location: Benson Alex Riseman Aquatics Center | Tampa, Fla.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- There was a total of 20 events in the meet.
- UT's men took first in nine of the 10 men's events.
- The Spartan women won seven events.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
- The Spartans took the opening race, the 400 Medley Relay. A winning time of 3:25.85 came from Colin Davis, Jared Mindek, Nick Piscitelli and Tibor Tistan.
- Hayden Curley won the 200 Free, being timed at 1:40.02.
- After being part of the winning relay, Tistan championed the 50 Free with a time of 21.49. UT took the top three spots with Patrick Fry and Jimmy Senese following.
- Tampa took the top three spots in the 200 Fly as Kenan Dean won in 1:52.07. Winn Aung and Ben Castro were both part of the top three.
- Santiago Aguilera won the 100 Free with a showing of 45.42.
- In the 200 Back, Melker Olsson's time of 1:50.15 was good for first place.
- Distance swimmer Barnabás Flück won the 1,000 Free with a time of 9:24.55.
- Aramis Rivera had a time of 2:03.38 to win the 200 Breast.
- UT won the final race, the 200 Free Relay, with a time of 1:22.91. The winning group was Tistan, Senese, Vincent Smith and Santiago Aguilera.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
- UT had a first-place finish from Sierra Gillan in the 200 IM as she was clocked at 2:07.89. Brooke Punnewaert and Madysen Barnes were second and third, respectively.
- Freshman Abbey Gardner was the 200 Fly winner with a time of 2:05.45 as Katie Horan and Carlee Sanchez-Hegarty were next.
- Sophie Frece won the 100 Free in 52.85. Tilde Morin and Emma Chestang followed to make it 1-2-3 for UT.
- The 200 Back was all Tampa in the top three spots. Kim McCaffrey finished in 2:02.70, ahead of Barnes and Gillan.
- The Spartans had a first in the 1,000 Free from Morgan Wimberly in 10:26.86.
- Punnewaert championed the 200 Breast in 2:22.59.
- Tampa concluded the meet with a first in the 200 Free Relay. Morin, Roma Vrijhof, Gillan and Emily Van De Wiele finished in 1:36.95.

The same two teams will face-off on Sunday at 10 a.m., at the Riseman Aquatics Center.
