Tampa Men Win Gamecock Invite Team Title; Women Fourth
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of Tampa men's swimming team registered a first-place finish among five teams at the University of South Carolina's Gamecock Invite, defeating the host school by more than 250 points.
Tampa's women also competed in the three-day event at the Carolina Natatorium, finishing fourth among eight teams.
Top Tampa Performers (Men)
- Freshman Jacob Hamlin started the evening session with a new school record while winning the 1,650 Free with a time of 15:01.66.
- Parker Knollman was the champion in the 200 Back as his winning time registered at 1:43.53.
- In the 100 Free, Ian Cooper was second with a showing of 43.82.
- Jared Mindek gave UT another first-place finish as he won the 200 Breast with a time of 1:58.99.
- The 200 Fly resulted in another first-place finish for Santiago Corredor as he was the top finisher at 1:46.24.
- The team champs went out with another school record and pool record, winning the 400 Free Relay. A time of 2:53.39 came from Blake Moran, Ian Cooper, Tibor Tistan and Caleb Brandon.
Top Tampa Performers (Women)
- In the first event of the day, freshman Laura Hodgson was the fastest Spartan in the 1,650 Free as she concluded the race at 17:01.70.
- Sierra Gillan was third in the 200 Back with a time of 1:58.38.
- Madysen Barnes was seventh in the 200 Fly as her time was 2:02.39.
- UT was fifth in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:23.90 to finish the invite. The Spartans team included Isabelle Sering, Roma Vrijhof, Sierra Gillan and Tilde Morin.
