
Santiago Corredor Wins Second SSC Gold While Men Continue to Lead Heading Into Final Day
OCALA, Fla. – The fourth day of SSC's wrapped up at Florida Aquatic Swimming and Training on Saturday night while heading into the final day of the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Swim Championship. The University of Tampa continues to hold a solid lead on the men's side while the Spartan women are firmly entrenched in second.
Tampa's men continued to lead the men's standings with 641 points, while Nova Southeastern stayed in second place, totaling 464 points. Catching up to the Spartans for second place was Florida Southern, who trailed Tampa by just 34 points with a total of 430.
The women from Nova Southeastern continued to increase its lead, finishing the night with 775 points. Behind the Sharks in second remains the University of Tampa Spartans with 620 points, followed by the Florida Southern Mocs in third place with 378 points.
Day five begins with prelims at 10 am, as the finals will begin at 5 pm.
Top Performances: Rafaela Raurich of Nova Southeastern broke another SSC Record, this time in the 200 Fly at 1:56.71. Rauich also bested the 200 Fly record in the prelims. NSU's Emily Trieschmann picked up first in the 500 Free in 4:49.16, while Maria Goncalves, also of NSU, earned gold in the 100 back at 54.45. Malaika Schneider of Lynn placed at the top of the podium in the 100 Breast in 1:02.53 while also helping her team of herself, Lexi Lundell, Luna Mertins, and Lara Dekoninck finished first in the 200 Free Relay at 1:32.23.
The men's top performers of the night saw Luke Dinges of Rollins set a new Meet Record in the 200 Fly with 1:44.92. Santiago Corredor of Tampa won the men's 500 Free in 4:20.52, followed by Brandon Wilson of Florida Southern finishing the 100 Back for first in 47.10. Nova Southeastern's Inigo Marina earned the highest spot on the podium in the 100 Breast at 53.04. For the second night in a row, Florida Southern earned gold in relay action as Brandon Wilson, Kyle Micallef, Nino Viallon, and Cameron Lai-Harris won the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:19.13.
