
Spartans Men Go Back-To-Back as SSC Champs; Women Runners-Up
OCALA, Fla. – The 2024 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships have come to an end after an exciting weekend. On the men's side, Tampa has been crowned SSC champions for the second year In a row and earned its third SSC Championship in program history, scoring 854 points. On the women's side, Nova Southeastern won their eighth SSC Championship with 1,025 points, nearly breaking their own conference record for team points set in 2023 with 1,041.
Top Performances:
Four meet and three overall conference records were set on the women's side during the 2023-24 championship. On the men's side, two meet records were bested. [See More: SSC Records & Top Times]
NSU's Emily Trieschmann repeats as Swimmer of the Meet. Trieschmann scored 80 points as an individual swimmer during the event. She set the SSC and Meet records in the 1650 Free. She also won the 200, 500, and 1000 Free. Trieschmann is the third swimmer to win the award twice and remains the fifth NSU honoree.
For the final night of the women's competition, Trieschmann started out the last night of finals, breaking the conference record in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:24.21. Laura Dekoninck recorded a gold medal finish in the 100 Free at 49.97. Lynn's Luna Mertins secured the top spot on the podium for the 200 Back with 1:58.57. Florida Southern's Alizee Pelletier was the final individual medalist of the championships, winning the 200 Breast at 2:16.04. The final event of the championships, the 400 Free Relay, concluded with Lynn's team of Luna Mertins, Olivia Flack, Malaika Schneider, and Laura Dekoninck winning gold in a time of 3:22.53.
In men's swimming, Tampa's Santiago Corredor repeats as Swimmer of the Meet after scoring 75 points as an individual swimmer. He posted wins in the 500 Free, 400 IM, and 200 Back, and finished fourth in the 200 IM. Corredor is the third swimmer to win the award twice and remains the second UT honoree.
Luca Alessandrini of Nova Southeastern recorded the first-place finish in the 1650 Free with 15:17.72. Marcel Snitko of Nova Southeastern managed to win the 100 Free at 43.57. In the 200 Breast, Nova Southeastern's Inigo Marina put together a time of 1:57.10 to take home the final individual gold medal of the evening. In relays, Tampa earned the victory in the 400 Free Relay as the team of Ian Cooper, Caleb Brandon, Santiago Corredor, and Blake Moran secured a time of 2:55.56 for the win.
