Tampa Swimming Teams Head to Final Day of Shark Invite With Lead

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams competed in the second and third sessions of the 2021 Shark Invitational on Saturday.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Men's Score (after session three): Tampa Spartans 705, NSU Sharks 681

Women's Score (after session three): Tampa Spartans 857, NSU Sharks 605

Location: NSU Aquatics Center | Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first session totaled six events, including three for the men and three for the women.
  • The second session totaled eight events, including four for the men and four for the women.

TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):

  • Noah Paut placed third in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 20.41.
  • Ian Morgan took second place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:32.46.
  • The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Paut, Angelo Russo, Mikael Haugen, and Hugo Bustamante) placed second with a time of 1:20.36.
  • Yigit Saglam took first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 47.52.
  • Tampa swept the 200 freestyle. Bustamante took first with a time of 1:38.64. Brian Daugherty finished second at 1:39.45. Pablo Ortiz finished third in 1:39.69.
  • The 400 medley relay (Russo, Youssef Khowessah, Saglam, Paut) was the runner up finishing at 3:15.19. 

TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):

  • Elizaveta Bazarova started off the morning session with a first-place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.73. Hana van Loock was the runner-up at 23.87.
  • In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Jessie Tobin took first finishing at 5:00.18. Alexa Turco placed second with a time of 5:04.19.
  • The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (van Loock, Roma Vrijhof, Johanna Koether, and Lindsey Grater) placed second with a time of 1:36.00.
  • van Loock took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.35. Bazarova placed second with a time of 1:52.29.
  • In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Katie Horan placed second with a time of 55.52. Madysen Barnes placed third with a time of 55.55.
  • Courtney Sherwood placed third in the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:26.17.
  • The 400 medley relay (Barnes, Julia Augustsson, Horan, van Loock) was the runner up finishing at 3:44.88.

UP NEXT:

The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow for the final two sessions of the meet. The morning session begins at 10:00 am and the evening session begins at 5:00 pm. Fans can watch live on TampaSpartans.tv and view results on the MeetMobile App.
