No. 9 Tampa Rally Past Rollins

Tampa, Fla- The No. 9 University of Tampa tennis team returned home to face Rollins College, Wednesday afternoon, in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. 

Final: No. 9 University of Tampa Spartans 4 , Rollins College Tars 3

Records: No. 9 University of Tampa Spartans (10-3, 4-2 SSC) , Rollins College Tars (6-7, 2-4 SSC)

How it Happened: 

No. 9 Tampa got straight to business, with Topalovic/Presley defeating Wasil/Yaroshuk (RCW), 6-4. Then on Court 2, the newly No. 45 ranked doubles duo, Wilberg/Williams won their match against Collado-Cordon/Ligay (RCW), 6-4 to secure the first match point. | 1-0 (Tampa). However the main court match was still going on having No. 8 Amaro-Veloso/Sanchez vs No. 49 Groth/Groves (RCW). No. 49 Groth/Groves gave No. 8 Amaro/Sanchez some trouble early on. However, the double duo remained on course and won, 6-4.

Onto singles, where Rollins showed more urgency in their play. Court 2 wrapped up quickly with, Katie Groves defeating Victoria Sanchez in straight sets to tie the match. | 1-1. However on Court 6, Freshman Rebecca Presley defeated Nata Collado-Cordon in straight sets minutes after Court 2 finished to put the Spartans up one. | 2-1 (Tampa). Rollins did however fight back on Courts 4 & 5. After winning the first, Aleks Topalovic lost to Polina Ligay (RCW) after dropping the last two sets both, 6-3, 6-3. | 2-2. On Court 5, Anine Wilberg had an excellent start to the match, winning the first set, 6-2. But then, Milla Falster (RCW) took the match away, winning two crucial sets which could've gone either way (7-6, 10-8). | 3-2 (Rollins). Fortunately, Savannah Williams closed out her opponent, Polina Vlasova on Court 3, 6-3, 6-3 to level the score. | 3-3. With the score tied at three a piece, all eyes turned to the main court, where No. 45 Georgina Groth forced a third set after winning 6-2, against No. 23 Raquel Amaro-Veloso. Amaro-Veloso, did however reverse the score, dominating the third set, 6-2, to give Tampa the victory.
