Weekly Preview: Competitive SSC Matchups Ahead for the Spartans

Tampa come off a victory Wednesday, March 29th against Rollins College.

No. 9 Tampa Spartan's Women's Tennis: (10-3, 4-2 SSC), 5th in the SSC

No. 9 Tampa

• No. 9 Tampa look to get another streak going with upcoming nationally ranked competition this weekend. Tampa will travel to Lakeland, FL to face No. 22 Florida Southern on Thursday, April 6th, then host the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Barry University, Saturday, April 8th. The Spartans last match resulted in a 4-3 victory against Rollins. No. 13 ranked Raquel Amaro won her singles match on Court 1 to break the tie score (4-3). No. 9 Amaro/Sanchez & No. 44 Wilberg/Williams doubles teams contributed to the win shutting out their opponents. No. 22 Florida Southern have a 76-5 record against No. 9 Tampa. However, the Spartans did win their bout, 4-3 back in April 13, 2022. No. 1 Barry has an 31-0 all-time record against No. 9 Tampa. 

No. 22 Florida Southern

• The Moccasins were shut out in their last match against Saint Leo, 7-0. No. 48 Laia Pasini went up against No. 4 Marta Vicens where she took Vicens to a third set losing, 10-2. Some other nationally ranked matchups were, No. 42 Olivia Bryant (FSC) vs No. 11 Claudia Borbon Roca, who won the third set in a tiebreaker, 10-7. This is Florida Southern's second lost in the last three matches. 

No. 1 Barry

• No. 1 in the SSC but also No. 1 in the world, Barry University have an impressive undefeated 16-0 record. Barry's last game was against West Alabama resulting in a 4-0 victory. Doubles, No. 3 Deniz Khazan & Daniela Farfan. No. 1 singles, Khazan suprisingly dropped the first set against opponent, Franco Haina. Her opponent would forfeit after, Khazan won 4 straight games in the second set.
