
Spartans Set UT, SSC Record in Day One of SSC Championships
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The first day of the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships ended with records being shattered by the University of Tampa. The men's standings have Tampa leading the way with 58 points. On the women's side, Nova Southeastern broke the NCAA Division II record while leading the pack at 58 points. The session featured one event, the 800 Freestyle Relay.

Top Performances:
The quartet of Emilia Ronningdal, Ilaria Murzilli, May Lowy, and Emily Trieschmann shattered the NCAA Divisions II record with their time of 7.12.56. The record has been held since 2016. Emma Chestang, Sierra Gillan, Kim McCaffrey, and Roma Vrijhof placed second for Tampa with their time of 2:13.19. Lynn would take third with their time of 7:23.42. Nova Southeastern, Tampa, and Lynn qualified their relays for the NCAA Championship.
On the men's side, Tampa's team of Santiago Corredor, Hayden Curley, Parker Knollman, and Caleb Brandon broke the meet record with touching the wall at 6:26.31. Following behind the Spartans was Nova Southeastern at 6:28.22 and rounding the pack in third place was Florida Southern at 6:34.64. The event saw four teams; Tampa, Nova Southeastern, Florida Southern, and Saint Leo make the cut time for the NCAA Championship with their respective times.
