
Tampa Swimming Remains in Contention as Hayden Curley Wins 500 Free National Title
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams were active at day four of the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the IU Natatorium, picking up another individual national championship and remaining in the top-five of the men's team standings.
Men's Standings: Tampa, 4th (225 points)
Men's Leader: Indianapolis (373.5 points)
Women's Standings: Tampa, 17th (74 points)
Women's Leader: Nova Southeastern (434.5 points)
Spartan Highlights (Men)
- Hayden Curley became the national champion in the 500 Free, winning in a school record time of 4:18.66. Fellow Spartan Barnabas Fluck was seventh with a time of 4:27.39. A day after winning a national championship, Santiago Corredor won the 500 Free consolation race in 4:21.96.
- After setting a school record in the 100 Back in the prelims at 47.86, Parker Knollman was 12th in the finals.
- Tampa would end the evening in the 200 Free Relay, placing 11th. The team of Tibor Tistan, Santiago Aguilera, Caleb Brandon and Patrick Fry were clocked at 1:20.11.
Spartan Highlights (Women)
- Emily Van De Wiele was 14th in the 100 Back, finishing in 55.29.
- In the 100 Breast, UT had a pair of finishers. Alli McFarland was 14th at 1:03.90 as teammate Julia Augustsson followed in 15th at 1:04.33.
- Sierra Gillan was 15th in the 200 Fly as her time was 2:02.57.
- The Spartans concluded the night with an All-American finish of seventh in the 200 Free Relay. A time of 1:32.77 came from Tilde Morin, Emily Van De Wiele, Sophie Frece and Roma Vrijhof.
