Tampa Men's Swimming 4th at NCAA Championships While Women Surge to 10th
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams both finished in the top-10 at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships at the IU Natatorium, with the Spartan men notching their best finish since 2002 while the women have now placed in the top-10 for five consecutive seasons.
Men's Standings: Tampa, 4th (327 points)
Men's Leader: Indianapolis (527 points)
Women's Standings: Tampa, 10th (128 points)
Women's Champion: Nova Southeastern (536.5 points)
Spartan Highlights (Men)
- Hayden Curley was third in the 1,650 at 15:10.69. Barnabas Fluck placed eighth at 15:22.14.
- A 10th-place finish came from Santiago Aguilera in the 100 Free as he was clocked at 43.59. His time was a school record.
- A pair of Spartans were in the A finals in the 200 Back as Santiago Corredor was the national runner-up in 1:42.09 while Parker Knollman came in sixth at 1:44.04.
- Jared Mindek placed 11th overall in the 200 Breast as his time was 1:59.41.
- The Spartans were third in the 400 Free Relay, which was the final event of the meet. A school record time of 2:53.91 came from Tibor Tistan, Caleb Brandon, Corredor and Aguilera.
Spartan Highlights (Women)
- In the 100 Free, Tilde Morin became an All-American with an eighth-place time of 51.34.
- Madysen Barnes placed eighth in the 200 Back as she became an All-American with a 2:01.77 finish. Ava Borowski was 15th in the event at 2:00.89 in the B final.
- Tampa was fourth in the final event, the 400 Free Relay. A time of 3:21.81 came from Morin, Emily Van De Wiele, Emma Chestang and Roma Vrijhof.
