
UT Dominates Keiser in Lone Home Meet of 2020-21 Season
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams hosted and won their first and only home meet of the season against No. 1 (NAIA) Keiser University on Saturday.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Final (Meet 1): No. 6 Tampa Spartans 124, No. 1 (NAIA) Keiser Seahawks 59

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first meet totaled 20 events, including 10 for the men and 10 for the women.
- Tampa's men won all ten of their events in the first meet, which allowed them to gain their first win of the season.
- The women won 9 out of 10 of their events in the first meet.
- In the second meet, the Spartan men won all but two races.
- The women swept several races and won all ten of the events in the second meet.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
MEET ONE
- Angelo Russo,Youssef Khowessah, Yigit Saglam, and Yannick Smith made up Tampa's 200 Yard Medley Relay which finished in first with a time of 1:33.27.
- Hugo Bustamante registers a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:42.00. Marvin Slanschek placed second with a time of 1:44.59.
- Noah Paut recorded a time of 21.53, earning first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle. With a time of 21.64, Smith placed third.
- In the 200 Yard Individual Medley, Gabe Parnell placed first with a time of 1:55.78. Daniel Tran placed third with a time of 1:57.81.
- Winn Aung won the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:54.81. Saglam was the runner up recording a time of 1:56.06.
- The Spartan men swept the 100 Yard Freestyle. Pablo Ortiz won with a time of 47.08. Jared Fitzgerald turned in a time of 47.25 to earn second place. In third, Mikael Haugen had a time of 47.69.
- Russo took the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:51.67.
- In the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 9:54.49 Ian Morgan finished first.
- Khowessah placed first in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:08.47.
- The Men's 200 Yard Freestyle B Team (Russo, Bustamante, Patrick Fry, and Saglam) took first with a time of 1:25.25.
MEET TWO
- The Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay (Bustamante, Khowessah, Saglam, and Smith) took first with a time of 3:27.96.
- Brian Daugherty led the pack in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:43.02. Grant Ruster placed second with a time of 1:49.65.
- Tampa swept the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle. Smith took the win with a time of 21.56. Slanschek was the runner up recording a time of 22.01. Ortiz finished third with a time of 22.44.
- In the 400 Yard Individual Medley, Morgan placed first with a time of 4:07.35. Parnell took second finishing at 4:07.58. Tran finished third with a time of 4:13.82.
- Saglam finished first in the 100 Yard Butterfly producing a time of 50.37. Russo placed second with a time of 50.72. Aung took third at 51.56.
- With a time of 46.71, Paut placed first in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
- Andreas Johnsen placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 53.30.
- In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Morgan placed first with a time of 4:44.83.
- Khowessah placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 58.71.
- The 400 Freestyle Relay (Smith, Bustamante, Fitzgerald, Haugen) ended the meet with a win finishing in 3:08.24.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
MEET ONE
- Tampa's 200 Yard Medley Relay team consisting of Madysen Barnes, Julia Augustsson, Katie Horan, and Elizaveta Bazarova started the meet off with a first place finish from a time of 1:47.68.
- Roma Vrijhof placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.14. Megan Goldthorpe finished just behind with a time of 1:56.10.
- The Spartans swept the 50 Yard Freestyle. Bazarova with a time of 24.00 took first. Kristen Wagner was the runner up with a time of 24.46. In third, Isabella Haight recorded a time of 24.89.
- Courtney Sherwood won the 200 Yard Individual Medley, finishing in 2:09.81. Augustsson placed third with a time of 2:11.63.
- Horan was the runner up in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.15.
- Tampa swept again in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Vrijhof won the event with a time of 52.76. Haight placed second recording a time of 53.6. Goldthorpe finished in third with a time of 55.29.
- Lara Wiedemann, with a time of 2:05.31, placed first in the 200 Yard Backstroke.
- In the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, Lindsey Grater, took first place with a time of 10:34.85.
- Paige Hunt won the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:25.97.
- With a time of 1:36.51, the 200 Yard Freestyle relay (Hana van Loock, Bazarova, Vrijhof, Wagner) ended the meet like it started by placing first.
MEET TWO
- The Women's 400 Yard Medley Relay (Wiedemann, Augustsson, Horan, Vrijhof) placed first with a time of 3:53.31.
- The Spartans swept the 200 Yard Freestyle. Bazarova won with a time of 1:55.17. Guiliana Zerpa placed second with a time of 1:56.08. In third, Haight turned in a time of 1:56.49.
- Tampa swept once more in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Vrijhof placed first with a time of 24.63, Horan placed second with a time of 25.42, and Goldthorpe placed third with a time of 25.59.
- In the 400 Yard Individual Medley, Karolyn Merch touched the wall first, with a time of 4:43.38. Erin Hixenbaugh was the runner up finishing with a time of 4:44.28. Hunt finished third recording a time of 4:45.15.
- Wagner placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 58.86. Sherwood finished third with a time of 59.68.
- In the 100 Yard Freestyle, van Loock took first place with a time of 51.49.
- Wiedemann placed first in the 100 Yard Backstroke registering a time of 57.88.
- Grater won the 500 Yard Freestyle finishing at 5:11.42.
- With a time of 1:05.93, Augustsson took the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
- The 400 Yard C Freestyle Relay (Vrijhof, Haight, Johanna Koether, van Loock) ended the meet with a win at 3:36.26.
UP NEXT:
The Spartans will hit the road to Fort Lauderdale to take on Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern on Saturday, February 6. The meet will once again have two sessions with the first one starting at 10:30 a.m. at the NSU Aquatic Center.
